The Upper East Side

Cyla Klein, Senior Associate Broker

The UES offers every type of living  you could want –from tiny studio in pre war walkups to luxury apartments and town houses that you can see in the movies, authentic eateries, gourmet shops, chic retail, services and abundant of green space – nothing can beat Central Park on one end or Carl Schurz at the other.

For families with children, the UES has the most awarding winning public and private schools in the City.

The UES is offering  apartments to  rents or buying at prices that have not been scene for a decade, yet because  of its high concentration of Co-ops, property value has been maintained and foreclosures  are rare.

Some of my favorite places are  Luka for breakfast , lunch or even brunch. Buon Gusto casual dining ,and 183 for fine dining- don’t miss there outdoor garden and very attentive staff.

Day or night 24/7 the UES has what you want!

The East Village

Michele Roderick, Senior Associate Salesperson

EAST VILLAGE LIVING

I have been a resident of the East Village for over 10 years and what makes the neighborhood so special to me is that I feel a sense of community. New people are moving in but there are many people and business’ that have been here for years and I like seeing familiar faces and places as I pass by. The neighborhood is diverse, young at heart, friendly, and lots of fun. Gentrification has set in but there is a down to earth, creative vibe that still resonates. As far as safety I have walked home many times at night by myself from avenue C to my apt on 1st Avenue and I  have never been threatened or felt threatened in over 10 years!

There are many restaurants; bars, cafes and young designer boutiques and I love having Thompkins Square Park in the neighborhood. There is a dog run for my dog, a pool and play ground for the kids,  lawns to chill out on as well as a farmers Market every Sunday for fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers.

Some of the places I like going out to are The Bourgeois Pig which is great for cheese fondue and wine (they offer half price bottles on Monday nights). Caracas has great arepas and empanadas if you’re in the mood for food from Venezuela.  I love sitting outside at 7A or Sidewalk café for a quick bite and people watching. Death & Co is great for exotic cocktails and tapas and if you’re on a budget Brick Lane has a delicious all you can eat Indian Buffet for $12.95, Sunburnt Cow has an unlimited Mimosa brunch for $14.95 and Cheap shots is good for a $7 pitcher. You can definitely go out on a small budget.

I’ve been selling and renting apartments in the East Village for years and you can still find lower rents and more space than in some other neighborhoods. Also, many of the landlords who I work with are willing to pay the broker fees, which help both sides of the transaction.

Last but not least, a short distance away is the Lower East Side, SoHo, The West Village and Union Square as well as the 6, F, L and N/R trains for convenience and I love the conveniences this unique neighborhood has to offer. If you are considering moving to the East Village, I highly recommend making this your new home!
